Today is my birthday. Birthdays make me think of dates. And dates make me think of calendars. Not the boring kind of calendars with big white boxes and numbers up in the corner, but rather, the awesomely designed calendars. I mean, if you have to stay organized you may as well have something pretty to look at, right?
So I started the search for my 2011 calendar, and let me tell you, there are some amazing options out there. More than enough designs and styles to keep me inspired over the upcoming year.
First, I had to check out the 2011 series by Linda & Harriett, one of my favorite project-based designer. Not only are these beautifully letterpressed, but each design represents the time of year so well — whether it be the color or the pattern or the iconic imagery. I would be one happy designer if I had these hanging up at my desk.
What’s more, is even after the month has passed, these calendars can be converted into a postcard so you can share the love!
Next, I came across these adorable dog-inspired calendars by African Grey Designs. I’m a sucker for those sweet puppy-dog eyes and these calendars certainly have them. The dinosaur costume for the month of October is really what sold me on these!
Now, I don’t know if it’s possible to be nostalgic about a place you’ve never been, but the photos from the next calendar series make me want to go back to Paris (and no, I have never been to Paris). The photos by Françoise Rachez are simply beautiful. The soft tones make me feel like I am looking through a window into a peaceful dream. My thoughts on these can pretty much be summed up with one little sentence…
And if you’re wondering what is currently inspiring me, it’s this incredible, intricately illustrated desktop wallpaper calendar by Avid Muse Design, found on Smashing Magazine (among many other awesome monthly desktop wallpaper calendars).
