Halloween Monster Bash

With Halloween right around the corner, stores are starting to sell out of costumes and children are getting excited to fill up on candy. If you’re planning on throwing a Halloween party this year, now is the time to start preparing for a night of fun and thrills! Planning the perfect party may seem like a frightening task, but don’t let that scare you away from throwing what will be the scariest and most entertaining party of the season! Here are some tips that will help make your party a graveyard smash.

  • Send out a spooky invitation that will instantly get your guests into the Halloween spirit. I love this Halloween invitation, “Creepy Weirdoland” for its elegant, slightly eerie look, and for the bold text that will immediately capture the attention and interest of your guests.

  • Create a playlist of traditional Halloween songs and catchy dance or rock songs that will keep your party alive. Songs like “Thriller,” “The Monster Mash,”  ”Love Potion Number 9″ and the theme from “Ghostbusters” are recognizable hits that will add a ghoulish tone to your party.
  • Make some gross-out desserts that are delicious to eat but are disturbing to the eye. Spider Cupcakes or Crunchy Doughnut Eyeballs will be sure to please the palette once your guests dare to taste them. Serve drinks in a visually stunning way that will match your theme. Try serving some blood red punch from a bowl in a plastic cauldron with dry ice at the bottom for a bewitching effect, or keep your drinks chilled in the bottom half of a pumpkin.

    • Decorate the space with themed decor and props that will instantly set the atmosphere and will impress and even scare your guests. Cobwebs, plastic insects, and scene setters always do the trick, but if you want to amp up the creative factor, try using red light bulbs or other party lights to completely change the look of a room, and by carefully using a fog machine to give your party a haunted house appeal. Animated props, such as snack bowls with a moving fake hand or dummies with a built in motion sensor, are always fun and will help take your party to the next level.

    • Martha Stewart has an extensive list of indoor Halloween decorations that I find to be really inspirational. I love the Specimen Jars craft since they will make your guests feel like they have been transported to a mad scientist’s laboratory, while the Pumpkin Balloons are simply cute and easy to make.

    • Set up some fun Halloween activities that will keep your guests engaged and active. Urge your guests to come in costume and hold a contest for the most creative and scariest looks. Pumpkin decorating is always nostalgic and fun, while a Halloween version of charades will get your guests to interact and laugh while trying to guess which classic Halloween movies or themes are being acted out.

Planning a frightening and fun Halloween party can be just as enjoyable as the big night itself! With a little bit of creativity and spooky flair, you will surely throw the party of the season that will entertain every ghost and goblin.
