The big game is near. It’s the Sunday where we’ll show our competitive spirits and fill up on food. It’s the day of touchdowns, friends, and wearing our favorite team’s jerseys as we shout, cheer, and eat throughout the night.
Are you planning on hosting a party to watch the big game this year? Here’s some tips for throwing the football party that will keep your guests amped and entertained.
- Send an invitation that will get your guests excited for game day. Get your invitations out early to spread the word as soon as possible, since there’s bound to be a few football gatherings in the neighborhood.
- Decorate the room with streamers that match the competing football teams’ colors. A touch of team colors here and there is a great and easy way to tie your theme together. Place some football themed table settings and decor on the main serving table. A football field table runner and football coasters are great ways to add extra creativity to the table. Remember, the main point of a football party is to watch the game and keep track of touchdowns with friends! Make sure that you have a clear space for the football fans to gather around some food and drinks, with the TV set up wherever it can be seen the best.
- It’s best to serve food that requires minimal preparation the day of the game, and will also require minimal utensils. Classic game day party offerings include hot wings, pizza, mozzarella sticks, chili, snacks, crunchy raw vegetables, and some delicious dips like quacamole. If you’d like to give making your own hot wings a go, check out this traditional recipe for homemade Buffalo tenders. For a unique way to match your theme, offer dishes that are specific to the areas that the competing teams are from. (The Patriots would call for some New England Clam Chowder, and so on.)
- A large supply of drinks is an essential part of a game day party. It’s always a good idea to offer a variety of beverages, since you may have a few guests who won’t be having the traditional bottle of beer. Guests may want to bring their favorite drinks to the party, which the host can even suggest in the invitation.
