Back in the day, great mother’s day gifts included a necklace made out of glittered macaroni, a coupon book to redeem hugs, and poems written in crayon and chocolate syrup. As we get older, the almost edible, handcrafted gifts just don’t cut it like they used to. Fortunately, not all handmade gifts have lost their charm.  One lucky pingg winner has snagged a $150 credit toward handcrafted jewelry from Fine & Good Jewelry.

And the winner is….Entry number 15!

Congratulations, Mary Margaret, on winning this special Mother’s Day giveaway! Looks like Mom will have a shining new piece of jewelry this year!

Also don’t forget, Aimée is offering a 20% discount for anything on her site until April 30th! Simply enter the coupon code MOM987 at checkout! So there is still time to buy mom something handmade and beautiful!

With hype over how great the spring weather is and all the Easter Egg Hunting, an important April holiday is often overlooked. Earth Day, which falls on April 22 this year, needs more attention! That’s why for this week’s staff pick, I chose “Rainbow World” designed by Scotti Taylor. She created a wonderful design that is perfect for Earth Day. I love that she omitted a large text box so that it doesn’t crowd the design and also framed it with an orange boarder to hold the title.

Thanks for remembering Earth Day this year, Scotti! Check out more of her fun designs here. And don’t forget to send out your Happy Earth Day cards on April 22 with pingg!

My mom always bribed me to wear shoes in strategic ways when I was a kid. She’d buy me slippers with little heels, cool jellies to wear by the pool, or shoes that matched hers so I’d have an incentive to wear them and avoid stepping on a rock or piece of glass. As I would run off into the backyard protesting the imprisonment of my toes, I neglected to see that shoes could be a luxury.

For many children in countries like Guatemala, Ethiopia, and Cambodia, just to name a few, shoes aren’t so easy to come by. That is why the people over at TOMS have set on a mission to give a child in need a pair of shoes for every pair that someone purchases.

They have also created the One Day Without Shoes challenge that is today! Toms encourages you to take off your shoes today and experience the world barefoot. The purpose is to raise awareness about the need for shoes in less fortunate countries, so kick off those shoes and make a statement!

Shawna Handke- Customized TOMS Shoes

One of our artists, Shawna Handke, is also making a statement with TOMS. She sells customized TOMS shoes in her Etsy shop, like the ones above, and donates part of the profit back to the children. We’re so proud to have an artist like her on board!

I recently had my first stint with karaoke and discovered my inner diva. When I came across today’s staff pick, Diva! designed by MaryJanes and Galoshes, it was like she was talking to me. Taylor Ballweg, the artist behind MaryJanes and Galoshes, created this wonderfully designed card. I love the retro picture she uses with the strategic tatters. The word placement underneath the image keeps the card from looking cluttered and the design is broad enough to be sent as a card just for fun or as an invitation for a fun ladies night on the town.
