Easter-ful Art

April 5th, 2012

With Easter only a few days away, baskets are getting filled with bright candies,  and eggs are getting dyed and decorated in colorful detail.   Ready to bite into some chocolate and super sweet candies,  I took a look at some photography featuring Peeps and pastels.

There are countless ways to decorate Easter eggs,  but simple, pastel colored Easter eggs are always so beautiful and striking.

Invitation Design Series: Part 1

April 3rd, 2012

My grandfather would always say, “In 10 years even a mountain can change.” He passed away way before anyone knew anything about the word “digital” and especially how much and how fast it would change our lives today.

“In 10 years grandpa, everything will change!”

With the digital realm rapidly advancing, we find ourselves living in a world where it’s no longer “can we?” but “we can!”. In this fast lane where we can see everything changing, we can’t help but to look back on times when things weren’t as fast paced as they are now. This nostalgic movement of longing for lost values of older times has been very well portrayed through successful sites like Etsy, where hand made items flourish or “apps” like Instagram, a photo editing mobile application that freezes any moment from our daily lives and puts them in a vintage setting where my grandpa would have belonged.

Invitation designs have definitely been influenced by such nostalgia, as seen by some of our top designers’ work. Their designs tend to look anything but “digital” that traditionally was sterile and technical. The subtle details that they use like paper textures give tangible feelings to their designs, and the appearances of the elements from the old times add timeless and priceless values to their designs.

Yet It is important for us as designers to design for reasons more than “oh that looks nice” and to ask ourselves why we do it. So, for the first part of the Invitation Design blog series, we have asked our designers the following questions:

How & Why?

1) Fenderskirts Vintage

 2) Lisa Barbero

3) RUCHI

So, now we turn the questions to YOU! How does this popular design trend of revisiting retro and vintage periods speak to you? How do realistic renderings of invitations enhance our user’s experience?

Meet the Designer: The Stationery Tote

April 3rd, 2012

Could you tell us about your work? What inspires you?

  • I didn’t set out to design stationery. In fact, I accidentally fell in love with it while finishing up my degree in Interior Design and simultaneously planning my January 2007 wedding, when I ended up designing many of the paper items I used. Inspiration is everywhere – a commercial on TV, a flower outside, a font on a greeting card (I love typestyles!). A lot of times, ideas just seem to pop into my head, and then grow and develop as I work on them.

How would you describe the style of most of your designs?

  • Modern whimsy – my own personal style is more modern, but somehow whimsy just seems to find its way into my designs!

How has your art changed over the years? Do you have any predictions of what it will be like in the future?

  • What has changed the most is probably the level of detail and depth. When I first started out, I was printing myself, which meant most of my designs were on a white background to save on ink costs. When I began designing for other companies, I was able to move into full color and my personal style really took hold. One thing that has always been there, however, is the use of shadows and depths, which has sort of become a signature of mine. As I move on, I see my designs continuing to become more layered and detailed!

What made you decide to work with pingg.com?

  • I met a couple of the pingg girls at the National Stationery Show in 2010 and when they expressed an interest in my work, I was flattered! pingg was the first place my designs were featured on a website other than my own, and I love the freedom of design and time I get working with pingg. I also love the fact that the customers decide which designs are hits and which aren’t, which doesn’t always line up with my predictions when I publish them, but keeps me on my toes and on the hunt for new and unique ideas!

If you had to choose a favorite invite you have made, what would it be?

  • That’s a tough question, because I seem to fall in love with each design as I complete it (or develop it). One of my favorites would have to be my Coffee Cake design, which I continuously go back and work on! I also love my Martini Pink card, which was one of my most popular sellers when I got started on ebay!

What benefits have you found the Internet has for your work?

  • Since I got started on the Internet, the benefits are priceless. I actually cannot draw by hand, much as I wish I could, so all of my designs have taken shape digitally and then were published via the web. I would not be able to do what I do without the Internet!

Seating Tips From Social Tables!

April 2nd, 2012
One of the most difficult tasks when planning a wedding is deciding who will sit by who. As entertaining conversations and a stress free environment is key to keeping your guests happy, it’s best to carefully set up seating to prevent any discomfort or confusion. Here are 5 top tips from Social Tables to make this process easier and more fun!
  • Make it easy for guests to find their seat! There are many creative options for escort cards and place cards, but make sure they are easy to spot and easy to read.  One of our favorites was seen at Amy Smart’s wedding.
