Summer is the best season of the year because of the weather, vacation, the beach, baseball and most of all, the movies.  The best movies are always reserved for summer release and in order to make sure you know what’s coming, we’ve complied a complete list of the most anticipated movies.

The sixth installment of the Harry Potter series was supposed to come out in November ‘08, but it was pushed back, giving way to the Twilight phenomenon.  For Harry’s legions of fans, I’m sure the Half-Blood Prince will be well worth the wait.

There are a plethora of Hollywood Blockbusters in the queue including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  All four movies, along with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are the latest installments of their popular franchises and will undoubtedly be smash hits at the box office.  After the first Transformers a few years ago, I am eager to see what Michael Bay has in store for us.  With returning characters, stunning special effects, and a storyline that has transcended generations, this is my most anticipated film of the summer.

The summer’s other action movies feature collaborations with mega stars such as Johnny Depp and Christian Bale teaming up for Public Enemies and John Travolta and Denzel Washington teaming up for the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.  I, grew up collecting G.I. Joe action figures and will certainly go out and see the long-overdue release of G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra.

Movies from controversial and unarguably talented favorites Sasha Baron Cohen and Quentin Tarantino are set to hit the big screen as well, two movies that I know I’ll see.

The major comedies of the summer include Land of the Lost, starring the always funny Will Ferrell, the latest from “it” producer Judd Apatow, Funny People, starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen, and Year One, starring Jack Black and Michael Cera.  My personal favorite comedian is Will Ferrell and I am sure he will make Land of the Lost another instant classic.

Date movies of the summer include, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Proposal, and The Ugly Truth.   Hoping I only have to go to one ☺

This summer will provide several family movies trying to be this year’s Wall-E.  The major animated films of the summer include Up, G-Force, and the third installment in the Ice Age saga, Dawn of the Dinosaurs.  Ben Stiller has resumed his post as night watchmen with a new cast of characters in Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian.  Personally I don’t have any children to take out to the theaters, but that doesn’t mean I won’t make it out to see one of these feel good films.

This summer is filled with movies for any type of moviegoer.  Don’t forget to go out to the local theater, grab a bag of popcorn, and take in the movie experience, over and over again.  There is nothing like an ice cold air conditioned theater to get you out of the scorching summer heat.
