They say, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Whoever came up with that phrase has not seen one of Erni Vales’ creations. Erni Vales’, celebrated graffiti artist, developer of 3D graffiti technique and creative innovator, eye catching, explosive images do more than express a thousand words, they jump off the page (or wall).
Vales began exploring and mastering graffiti art as a teenager. Today, he’s a revered painter whose style is emulated internationally. Over the course of his career, Vales expanded his artist gift to other mediums including, art direction, fashion photography, interior design and performance art. His expansion into other mediums has lead Vales to work with brands such as Chanel and Hieneken and collaborations with other artists such as photographer David LaChappelle and video director Hype Williams. Vales and LaChappelle’s collaborations include portraits of some of music’s finest, including Elton John, Madonna, Mariah Carey and L’il Kim (whose portrait was ranked as one of the greatest portraits of all time by Rolling Stone in 2004).
Most recently, Vales reunited with LaChappelle once again, to work with Lady Gaga on her photo shoot and cover appearance on this month’s Rolling Stone Annual Hot List issue.
