Welcome Home Chiquita!

ChiquitaIn my experience, when it comes to pets, people become, how should we say, territorial. You’re either a dog person, a cat person or a “get that thing away from me” person. I happen to be a dog person. Even our good friend Martha Stewart has taken the pet stance with her daily pet blog, “The Daily Wag,” which features her dogs Francesca and Sharkey. Recognizing that a pet is an addition to a family, Martha even shows her users how to send pet announcements with pingg via her Adopting a Pet site.

Having always grown up with dogs, it was heartbreaking last year when my family had to put our beloved dog to sleep. A year went by, and our house felt like there was something missing. I would stop and play with dogs in the street, all the while figuring out a way to bring the dog home with me.

Now I can officially stop thinking about stealing other peoples’ dogs. This past Sunday my family and I welcomed a new (and some would say unplanned) addition into our family, Chiquita!

Weighing in at a staggering pound and a half, Chiquita is expected to only grow to be about five pounds. While Chiquita maybe considered a runt by typical Havanese standards (7-13 pounds is the average full grown), she is by no means the runt in our family. Her size adds to her charm and she has won us over in the mere six days she has been a part of my family (and let’s be honest, she won us over in the first five minutes).
