LET THE PHOENIX RISE is based on the true stories of four troubled teenage girls, and their triumphs over adversity. As they struggle to make sense out of the challenging circumstances they were born into, their journeys are imbued with humor, fairytale, magical images, symbolism, and life-affirming directives conveyed in Greek Chorus tradition -- all guided by the Archetypal Mother, who incarnates as a Counselor in order to assist their transformation.
Written by Laura Gosheff and Sheri Heller, and directed by Daniel Neiden, LTPR conveys that the human journey, with all its broken dreams and struggles, is a sacred exploration of self and others. It is through creativity, humanity, and love that adversity is survived and meaning is discovered.
Run time: approximately 75 mins.
THE PHOENIX PROJECT
Using LET THE PHOENIX RISE as a catalyst and reference for healing and self-reclamation, THE PHOENIX PROJECT is a creative arts workshop that was developed in collaboration with MoMA's community organizations program. THE PHOENIX PROJECT’s mission is to inspire marginalized, traumatized, and culturally under-served women and girls in the public sector of New York City to give creative expression to their own traumatic histories and find creative solutions to life’s conflicts.
Since art transcends class, gender, and race barriers and has the potential to teach, inspire and catalyze insight and action, THE PHOENIX PROJECT offers tremendous potential for healing and hope to women and girls suffering from the repercussions of childhood abuse and trauma. By bringing creative arts and psychological and spiritual healing together in the form of therapeutic theater, dance, and other artistic expression, THE PHOENIX PROJECT offers these women and girls an opportunity to explore their own journeys and move toward a positive sense of identification, reclamation, and self-realization.
THE PHOENIX PROJECT aspires to amplify its potential for offering a powerful healing experience for workshop participants by collaborating with organizations that offer diverse forms of artistic expression.
