Getting Through The Swim – How to complete and survive the aquatic leg of a triathlon – A FREE Clinic by Coach, Ruthy Vesler.
Who: All members of TCSD, newbies, triathletes, swimmers, runners, cyclists, and friends who are interested in competing in triathlons but are having anxiety about the swim.
What: Preparation is the key to making it through the swim. “Getting Through The Swim” is a 2 hour clinic designed to prepare you for race day. You will learn how to swim first on land by learning proper body position, timing, breathing, and tricks of the trade. We will cover some of the same cutting-edge skills as my Beginner Swim Clinics. We will also discuss swim training, racing strategy, proper equipment, water safety followed by a short Q&A. After the lecture portion there will be an optional demonstration and an opportunity to practice your new skills in an informal coached session. We will swim in the warm and shallow 84 degree pool!
When: Thursday, January 21, 2010 - lecture from 6:30pm - 8:00pm and an informal “coached” swim from 8:00pm-9:00pm.
Where: Pardee Aquatic Center at the Boys and Girls Club in Solana Beach 533 Lomas Santa Fe Dr. Solana Beach, CA 92075
Cost: The lecture is FREE. If you decide to stay for the Coached Swim you must pay $5 to the pool for your admission.
What to bring: This is an indoor/outdoor clinic. We will also be doing a lot of movement. Please dress accordingly in loose comfortable clothing that will allow you to move. If you are interested in staying for the Coached Swim, you must bring: a swimsuit, towel, a good (comfortable and non-leaking) pair of goggles (can be purchased at the pool), and a swim cap (if you have long hair this is HIGHLY recommended and can be purchased at the pool).

About the Instructor: Ruthy Vesler has been swimming for over 23 years. She is a high school swimming All-American, 5 x NCAA All-American, now turned Professional Triathlete, with 2 top-10 Ironman finishes (6th IM Malaysia, 10th IM WAUS), was ranked 8th on the 2006 ITU Long Distance list and competed at ITU World Championships in 2006 as a member of the USAT Long Distance Elite Team.
