ChangeMakers, the young grantmaker’s council of the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation, is ramping up for the new year!

ChangeMakers engages youth in active philanthropy-through studying community needs, prioritizing a focus issue and investing charitable dollars.
  
Last year, the 50+ members from Round Rock area high schools logged over 500 hours learning about needs in the community and determining how they would invest their charitable dollars. They also completed two community service projects, offering their time and energies to those in need -- and had a great time along the way!
  
The year will begin with the students surveying their peers to determine the most pressing issues affecting Round Rock youth. They will then learn about community organizations working in those areas, and decide how to make grants to truly make a change!
  
The Greater Round Rock Community Foundation believes in the potential of this group. We believe that communities benefit when their youth gain leadership skills early on. The Foundation believes that by involving teens in grantmaking, they will be more aware of the importance of community activism and will become prepared to be tomorrow's civic leaders. The ChangeMakers will enhance the decision making skills of young people and develop and encourage youth involvement in philanthropy and volunteerism.
  
And, youth will log community service hours towards special awards at their high school graduations and will have an awesome line item for their college or employment applications!
  
The program would not be possible without the support of Wells Fargo, who has generously donated $20,000 to the program. They have partnered with ChangeMakers since year one, placing their confidence and investing generously in this group and its mission.
  
Meetings are held each 2nd Monday, October through May as follows:
Oct 12, Nov 9, Dec 14, Jan 11, Feb 8, Mar 8, Apr 12, May 10
  
We gather to socialize and eat pizza at 6:30p, then meet from 7p to 8:30p at the First United Methodist Church, Building 5, 2nd Floor, “Youth Café”.
  
We will also complete two community service projects on MLK Day of Service Monday, Jan 18 and on Global Youth Service Day Saturday, Apr 24. Projects will be determined by ChangeMakers members.
